Eat Drink Talk Think: Spring 2016

Eat Drink Talk Think is a networking and conversation night about sustainable fair food, held on the first Tuesday of each season. Each event hosts inspiring short talks around a theme followed by discussion and networking. The evening gives those working and volunteering on sustainable and fair food projects an opportunity to meet, be inspired by others’ projects, discuss ideas, forge new relationships, and stay connected with what’s happening in this scene.

For the Spring 2016 Edition of Eat Drink Talk Think we will be asking ‘How can we better tell the sustainable fair food story to engage new audiences?’

Along with our two speakers there will be some structured discussion to help practitioners think about how some of these ideas could apply to their own work.

The two speakers of the evening include:

Dr Jen Rae – Artist, researcher, and cultural producer Dr Jen Rae uses public art to help people engage with sustainable fair food dilemmas. Jen is a lecturer at the University of Melbourne’s Victorian College of the Arts, and she is the Co-founder and Director of The Riparian Project, a public art initiative that aims to influence a shift in livestock grazing practices in Victoria to improve river health. With artist Dawn Weleski she recently co-created ‘Fair Share Fare’ for the Refuge project, a weekend-long public participation project that simulated a disaster scenario, and pushed people to think about food security.

Ben McMenamin – Chef, environmentalist and social entrepreneur Ben McMenamin uses food to communicate the story of sustainable food. He worked as a chef for over 10 years, and came to realise the power that food has to bring people together and catalyse social change.  He has cooked with a number of great social initiatives including the Food Know How project, Scarf Community Dinners, Give a Fork Sustainable Seafood lunch, OzHarvest and more. He recently founded the Social Food Project, which has included the Stories over Supper project – a 3 course dining experience to highlight local changemakers.

The event will be held on Tuesday September 6, from 6:30pm-9pm, at the Neometro Lounge, Jewell Station – 15a Union St, Brunswick.

Ticket prices are $6 pre-event online, and $7 on the door if still available. Drinks and nibbles are included in ticket price.
